Campamento

The Panamá Verde camp this weekend went really well. I would definitely consider it a success. :) It was definitely an informative weekend for me, as I´ve never run, attended or been a counselor at a youth camp before. But we pulled it off and the kids had a really good time. There were about 27 kids in total. We arrived on Friday and the weekend consisted of some hikes up little hills, a trip to the mangroves to help plant new trees, and a trip to the beach to learn about tide pools. There were lots of charlas and of course games and dinámicas. On the last night we made s´mores and it was the first time any of the kids had had them before and it was awesome. They quite enjoyed them, as did I. :) We also played a competitive review game of everything they had learned over the weekend and it was very encouraging to see how much information they had retained and how they had really paid attention. I think they got a lot out of it. The only downside to the camp for me was that I got sick. On Sunday morning I ended up doubled over in extreme pain in my lower abdomen, that would come and go throughout the day. So instead of going home with my kids on Monday morning I came to Panama city, ran some lab tests, and after almost a full year of avoiding them... I have intestinal parasites. The pain was from an infection they caused. That´s right, I go to camp and get parasites. Oh well. At least I went to the doc right away instead of playing the ¨I´ll be fine¨ card so now I have meds and they´ll be gone in a week. No biggie. I´m on my way back home now and then I´ll be back in the city on Thursday and Friday to help create some training material for the new group that arrives on the 16th. Oh, and I also took a ton of pictures of the camp that I would love to share, but they´re on someone else´s camera, of course, so I shall post them when I get them. It went really well. Things are good. :)
